days we’re pedalling harder and harder trying to keep up.
Let’s look at some statistics. Sourced from Citi Digital and Sensor Tower information, the following illustrates the time taken to reach 50 million users worldwide:
We’ve gone from the 75 years it took the world to get to 50 million phone users, 38 years for the same number of radio
users, to 13 years for TV users. It took just 4 years for the Internet to reach 50 million users, 9 months for Twitter and 19 days for Pokemon Go!
Whatever role you play – CEO, a business owner, manager or employee – the issue is often similar. The sense of excitement about future possibility can be overshadowed by the fear about whether we will even be able to keep up with the great wave of change and disruption that’s taking place.
I’ve felt this myself. As a business futurist, an entrepreneur, business leader, I’ve spent my career immersed in
disruption, innovation and change.
But along with the tremors I’ve sometimes felt about what’s in wait just around the corner or bearing down at
uncomfortable speed, I’ve learned something important.
The future is not pre-ordained. It’s not something that just happens. You have the ability to choose it. Every single one of us has the ability to take action today which will help shape the future – our own future and maybe a lot of other people’s too.
Dream It See It Do It – is a 3 step guide I’ve created – focused on defying disruption and igniting the spirit of innovation in any organisation.
It’s a step by step process which allows you to identify not only your key steps, challenges and decision points, but
also to deal constructively with other people’s attitudes and behaviour toward change. This is much more than just a
theory of business survival. It’s a method to mobilise your organisation to thrive by acting purposefully today to create tomorrow’s achievements and further opportunities.
The Dream It, See It, Do It process was inspired by a couple of lines of George Bernard Shaw that have always
resonated with me. Here’s what he said:
“Some look at things that are and ask why.
I dream of things that never were and ask why not?”
So dream big, embrace the opportunities the future will bring and ask yourself – So What’s Your Why Not?
